Assertiveness - the Master Key
There is a difference between assertiveness, aggressiveness, and passivity.
Being assertive means communicating with others in a direct and honest manner without intentionally hurting anyone's feelings.
It is a multifaceted skill of being self-assured and confident without being aggressive.
It's about striking a balance between respecting yourself and others, expressing your needs and opinions, and also setting boundaries in such a way that others don’t get intimidated but honor your boundaries.
For our personal growth, being assertive with ourselves & others is paramount.
Our assertiveness is like the master key that opens many doors of progress for us. It could be very helpful for a student to ask questions in the class to clear doubts,. So also, the conversation between couples to have clarity & respect for each other. Taking your team forward or following your superior’s words in a peaceful manner are other examples.
This way bypasses any kind of aggressiveness, where things / relationships can turn ugly or lead to passiveness which creates stagnation.
Most importantly, assertiveness helps us to remain in integrity with ourselves, so that we are growing in a proactive manner.
