5 Metaphysical Reasons for Inner Resistance

There are times in life when we deeply want to move forward, heal, receive, grow, or change — and yet, something within us keeps holding us back.

From the outside, this may look like procrastination, fear, confusion, or self-sabotage. But from a metaphysical perspective, inner resistance is not always just psychological. Sometimes, it is connected to deeper energetic, karmic, ancestral, and soul-level patterns that are still active within us.

Inner resistance can be the result of invisible programs running beneath the surface of conscious thought. It can come from what we have inherited, what we have carried across lifetimes, what we have promised, and what we have not yet integrated within ourselves.

Here are 5 metaphysical reasons for inner resistance that can help us understand why we sometimes feel blocked even when our heart genuinely wants to move ahead.

1. Ancestral Karmas

Sometimes, inner resistance does not begin with us.

We may be carrying emotional, energetic, or karmic patterns from our ancestral line — patterns linked to fear, struggle, suppression, guilt, survival, sacrifice, rejection, poverty, or silence. When generations before us have lived through pain, conflict, limitation, or unhealed suffering, their imprint can continue through the family field.

This may show up as resistance to:

  • success

  • receiving abundance

  • being visible

  • speaking one’s truth

  • living differently from the family pattern

  • choosing joy, even when the lineage has carried grief

At a deeper level, ancestral karmas can create an unconscious loyalty to the suffering of the lineage. A part of us may feel that moving beyond those patterns is a kind of betrayal, even when consciously we know we want freedom.

So what feels like “my fear” may sometimes be a deeper inherited imprint asking to be seen, healed, and released.

Story

Deepak was an outstanding student from a well-known university in America, yet he remained jobless for nearly a year. What troubled him even more was the pattern he saw in his family. His father had retired as an extremely underpaid, simple, and hardworking professional despite being super intelligent and a consistently outstanding performer for his company. Deepak noticed a painful family pattern: educationally, they had all excelled, but professionally they had struggled when it came to remuneration and recognition.

During a group healing process called Soul Metaplay, complete strangers were guided to play the role of money and other aspects of his life. Through that process, a hidden ancestral pattern came to light. His fourth-generation grandfather, who had been a priest, had taken a vow of poverty, believing that living with the bare minimum would keep him closer to God. The ancestor also carried the belief that being in perpetual need keeps one spiritually pure, and in some way that vow had extended into the family line.

Once that oath was reversed with reverence, Deepak received a promising placement within a week.

This is how ancestral karmic beliefs can silently shape the destiny of generations — until they are lovingly brought into awareness and released.

2. Past-Life Pre-Programmed Karmas

Not all resistance belongs only to this lifetime.

From a metaphysical lens, some forms of inner resistance may arise from past-life karmic imprints — unresolved experiences, unfinished lessons, emotional wounds, traumatic memories, or energetic programs carried into the present incarnation.

For example, someone may strongly resist:

  • being seen

  • using their voice

  • trusting love

  • stepping into power

  • leading others

  • receiving spiritual gifts

  • taking action on their deeper calling

This resistance may not always be logical from the current-life point of view. A person may say, “I don’t know why I feel this fear. I just do.” In such cases, the resistance may be linked to old soul memories where visibility led to punishment, love led to pain, power led to downfall, or trust led to betrayal.

These pre-programmed karmic patterns can quietly influence the present until they are brought into awareness and consciously transformed.

Sometimes, the soul is ready — but the old karmic memory is still saying, “It is not safe.”

Story

Susan and Peter were a childless couple. All their medical reports and investigations were normal, yet every attempt to conceive only brought more stress and emotional trauma.

During a regression process, Susan experienced herself as a woman in ancient Rome who had died during childbirth. Peter, in that lifetime, had been her husband. He had lived out the rest of his life grieving deeply while raising their orphaned baby alone.

From a metaphysical point of view, the trauma of childbirth had not been fully released. Somewhere deep in Susan’s subconscious, pregnancy had become associated with death, pain, and loss. She was not consciously aware of this, yet her system appeared to be resisting conception.

Once this old trauma was healed and released, Susan conceived within the next three months and later gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Whether one sees this as soul memory, subconscious symbolism, or karmic imprint, it beautifully illustrates how old energetic programming can create resistance in the present.

3. Oaths, Vows, and Promises Made Across Time and Space

Another deep metaphysical source of inner resistance can be oaths, vows, and promises made consciously or unconsciously across lifetimes — and even within this lifetime.

These could include vows of:

  • poverty

  • sacrifice

  • celibacy

  • suffering

  • silence

  • obedience

  • isolation

  • loyalty to pain

  • service without receiving

  • renouncing worldly pleasures

In certain lifetimes, such vows may have served a spiritual, social, or survival purpose. But if their energetic imprint remains active, they can continue influencing present-day life in ways that create resistance.

For example:

  • a vow of poverty may create resistance to abundance

  • a vow of silence may create resistance to self-expression

  • a vow of sacrifice may create resistance to joy or ease

  • a vow of celibacy or emotional withdrawal may create resistance to intimacy or love

  • a promise of loyalty to a person, lineage, path, or suffering may create resistance to moving on

These kinds of vows/promises may not be remembered mentally, but they can still be operating energetically. A person may deeply desire something in the present life, yet feel strangely blocked because an old promise is still holding power in the subconscious or energetic field.

When seen clearly, such resistance often reveals that the soul is not against growth — it is simply still bound by an old agreement.

Story

Shubha found it difficult to find the right groom for her 30-year-old daughter. After her husband’s death, she had raised her daughter with deep love and devotion. Yet, despite repeated efforts, the mother-daughter duo felt stuck. Suitable alliances kept failing.

During chakra reading and healing exploration, an old oath surfaced. Shubha remembered that as her husband was taking his last breath, she had promised him that she would always be there for their daughter and would never leave her alone.

Though made out of love, that promise had become an energetic bond. At a deeper level, the vow may have led to resistance to the daughter’s marriage because it would naturally mean separation and a new beginning.

Once the oath was resolved respectfully, the way was cleared, the right groom was soon found, and her daughter's marriage went off without a hitch.

This is the hidden power of vows: even loving promises can become limiting if their energy remains frozen in time.

The good news is that Redikall Statements can help people work through some of these hidden oaths, vows, and promises with awareness and reverence.

4. Lack of Integration Between the Head, Heart, and Soul-Level Plan

Sometimes inner resistance is born not from external blocks, but from inner fragmentation.

A person may be thinking one thing, feeling another, and carrying a soul-level intention that is not yet fully understood by the conscious mind. In such cases, the head, heart, and soul are not moving in one direction.

For example:

  • the head may want security

  • the heart may want joy and emotional fulfillment

  • the soul may be calling for growth, service, or transformation

When these three levels are out of sync, resistance naturally arises.

The mind may create doubt. The heart may feel restless. The soul may keep nudging from within. And the person may experience this as confusion, heaviness, indecision, delay, or inner conflict.

This is why some people feel stuck even when they are trying sincerely. The issue may not be lack of desire — it may be lack of integration.

When the head understands, the heart agrees, and the soul’s direction is honored, energy begins to move more smoothly. Resistance often softens not because life becomes easier, but because the inner being becomes more aligned.

Story

Faruque wanted to become a chartered accountant because his father had a CA firm and it seemed natural for him to continue the family legacy. It would have been practical, respectable, and easy in many ways.

But what he truly loved was painting. Art filled him with joy. He could spend entire days immersed in it. His soul carried a deep yearning to serve orphanages and support children in need.

Yet he kept failing his accountancy exams.

During a mentoring session, the real issue became clear: he was not lazy or incapable. He was internally divided. His head directed him  toward accountancy, his heart longed  for art, and his soul  yearned for service.

Once he saw a way to integrate all three, everything shifted. He realized he could build financial stability through accountancy, continue teaching and creating art, and use both his earnings and his artwork to support orphanages and children’s education.

That integration deeply resonated with him.

He passed his CA exams in his very next attempt, joined his father’s firm as a rising star, and began spending weekends with orphaned children, teaching them art and celebrating life with them. He also auctioned some of his paintings to corporate clients and raised meaningful funds for the children’s future.

This is a beautiful example of what becomes possible when the head, heart, and soul finally start walking together.

5. Lack of Synchronization Between Material and Spiritual Life

One of the most common metaphysical causes of inner resistance is the divide between material life and spiritual life.

Many people unconsciously believe they must choose one over the other:

  • spirituality or success

  • inner peace or ambition

  • service or abundance

  • devotion or worldly achievement

  • soul growth or material comfort

This inner division creates resistance.

A person may want to grow financially, but feel guilty. They may want visibility, but fear becoming “less spiritual.” They may desire comfort, love, beauty, or success, but associate these with ego, attachment, or spiritual failure.

As a result, the spiritual self and the worldly self begin pulling in opposite directions.

True alignment comes from harmonizing material and spiritual life rather than rejecting either one. When approached consciously, the material aspect can support the spiritual, adding depth and purpose to our lives.

Inner resistance can arise when this bridge has not yet been built.

Until that synchronization happens, a person may keep feeling torn between what they want to live and what they believe they are “supposed” to be.

Story

Amit returned from a 15-day meditation retreat, which had been fully sponsored by his company, only to find himself unjustly terminated the very next day. This shocking turn of events left him feeling both devastated and confused.

When he explored the situation with a Redikall mentor, a deeper belief surfaced: somewhere within himself, he had been carrying the idea that spirituality and a thriving worldly life do not go well together.

That unconscious split had created resistance in his life.

He was guided to work with the affirmation: “I integrate my material and spiritual life.”

Within three weeks, Amit found a new, better paying job . More importantly, he began using part of his income to buy books and courses for his spiritual development. As his inner alignment improved, he also began noticing better returns on his investments.

When the material and spiritual dimensions of life are aligned, life often  flows with far less resistance.

Final Reflection

Inner resistance is not always a simple matter of mindset or discipline. Sometimes it is connected to much deeper layers of our existence — ancestral patterns, karmic memories, old vows, inner misalignment, or an unresolved split between spirit and matter.

When we begin to look at resistance through a metaphysical lens, we stop seeing ourselves as weak or lazy. Instead, we begin to understand that there may be deeper energies asking for awareness, healing, release, and realignment.

The purpose is not to fear these hidden causes. The purpose is to become more conscious of them.

Because once resistance is understood at its root, it can begin to soften. And when it softens, life begins to move again.

Not through force. But through awareness, healing, and alignment.
